Hi, I'm Meg.

I used to be a lawyer, now I work remotely and travel around the world…

Since September 2021, my boyfriend Aaron and I have been moving around Europe, living in Airbnbs, working part-time remotely, whilst enjoying the best that Europe (for now!) has to offer.

Before that, we were both property dispute lawyers, working 9-6 in the office (pre-covid that is!), but we both loved travelling and had a mile-long list of places we wanted to visit ‘at some point’!

However, full-time work isn’t conducive to travelling the world, particularly in the legal world, which is quite old fashioned, and before Covid, hybrid-working or working from home at all was not the norm at all.

With that, we’d decided that we would save up some money, leave our jobs and finally go and see these places in 2020/2021.

Good old Covid put a spanner in the works with that grand plan, but in hindsight, it was the best thing that could have happened, in terms of our travel plans.

Like most people, I spent far too much time scrolling Instagram in the depths of the pandemic. With your hour of exercise over, what else were you going to do?!

I started finding people that were somehow still travelling during Covid, and also people that travel full-time whilst working. The fact that we were all working from home got us thinking more about remote working. If I can work from home, why couldn’t home be somewhere sunny? Why couldn’t we work and travel simultaneously?

It was then that I discovered the ‘digital nomad’ world – a whole community of people who are self-employed, generally picking up work as and when, and live where they want, when they want. I thought, we could do that!

So rather drastically, we sold pretty much everything we owned, quit our well-paid jobs, moved out of our comfortable home, dusted off our rucksacks and headed out on a new adventure.

Thanks to Covid, we did have extra time to save up a bit of cash (so we do have a buffer) but we are hoping not to touch that, rather earn money along the way, which leaves us with our savings for wherever/whenever we ‘settle down’.

If you’re interested in becoming or learning all about what it means to be a ‘digital nomad’ or if you simply want a decent bit of advice on a particular destination – you’ll hopefully find something useful here!
